I just can’t help myself.

I consider this an Atlanta institution. I don't go to the Varsity. The food isn’t outstanding, it’s got a kitschy atmosphere and the waitresses are delightfully dressed throwbacks from diners of the past.

It is senior friendly so be prepared for despite being in Buckhead you’re not going to find the happening crowd. This is real food for real people.

Generally there is a wait but they move tables pretty quickly. I haven’t had to wait more than 10 minutes in my at least dozen visits.

Surprisingly I haven’t been for breakfast. I always have gone at odd times of day. The menu hasn’t changed as long as I can remember and I’ve lived her for two decades.

Sweet potato chips with maytag blue cheese. Very edible but not remarkable. I order it almost every time. Chicken salad platter was way over salted last time I had it. Maybe the older taste buds dig that but I didn’t. I should have sent it back.

Basket of fried shaved onions are a delicious greasefest. Keep the napkins closeby since finger licking in public is bad manners.

Sides are typical southern fare. Some you likely have had at your grandmothers and others like the squash casserole I wish my grandmother made.

Milkshakes are delicious every time too.

No bar but they have bottled beer and wine. Service is always at least pretty good if not great. The atmosphere is fun, especially the money tree.

I am always too full for dessert. One of these days….
